As was expected the Office
of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has extended the suspension of the quality of
service standard for the National Water Commission (NWC).
OUR Spokesman David Geddes told RJR News Thursday night that the extension will remain in effect until September 30.
As was reported by RJR News Thursday, the OUR is awaiting further information from the Jamaica Public Service Company before a decision can be made whether to grant it an extension.
The suspension, which was granted to the two utility companies in the aftermath of Hurricane Dean, ended on Monday.
The Guaranteed Standards Regulation was established by the OUR to ensure prompt and effective service at all times to customers of utility companies.
If the companies fail to respond to the complaints in a reasonable time frame, customers have a right to claim a refund.
