The tax authorities say they have changed their systems to accept only cheques made payable to the Collector of Taxes.
The change, which took effect last Wednesday, is part of the efforts of the Inland Revenue Department to control its revenue accounting.
As a result, cashiers at tax offices will no longer be able to accept cheques made payable to other agencies for which collection services are provided.
Employers are therefore advised that they should stop making cheques payable to NIS (National Insurance Scheme) and HEART, once the payment is being made through a tax office.
The move comes ahead of a plan to amalgamate of the payment of payroll contributions and deductions in January 2011.
