Technology ministry establishes two new bodies

Two new bodies have been established in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining.

They are the E-Government Company Jamaica Limited (E-Gov) and the National Information Communication Technology (ICT) Advisory Council.

E-Gov will be the single government entity providing general ICT services to the entire public sector.

It will incorporate the functions of the former Fiscal Services Limited, which had responsibility for ICT for the government's revenue services, and some of the functions of the former Central Information Technology Office (CITO).

The National ICT Advisory Council will report to the Minister on matters related to policy matters.

University of the West Indies Professor Evan Duggan has been named chairman of   E-Gov.

IT consultant Carlton Samuels is chairman of the ICT Advisory Council.
