The Federal Reserve Board, the US central bank, has reduced the benchmark federal funds rate by another 25 basis points to between 4.25% per annum and 4.50% per annum.
This is the last rate cut before the Trump administration takes office on January 21 next year and the Fed says inflation will be hovering at 2.5% next year.
Fed chairman Jerome Powell says, against this background, there will only be two rate cuts in 2025.
