The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has confirmed the metric to be used for distribution of funds in the Beryl Cash Assistance programme.
The WFP has earmarked $220 million to support recovery in households from Hurricane Beryl.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, 11,500 people whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Beryl in early July are being targeted.
Dana Sacchetti, head of UN World Food Programme Jamaica Office, says the funds will provide support for food, water and essential needs.
"Families with children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities will be prioritised. The cash that will be provided to each household is being calibrated according to the household size. Households that are eligible with one to two persons will receive $20,000. Households with three to five persons will receive $36,000, and households with six or more persons will receive $50,000," he outlined.
The transfer will be facilitated through Western Union's network of 235 agents across Jamaica.
Beneficiaries will receive support for up to two months.
