Wigton partners with IEC to install solar system at Sangster Int'l Airport

Wigton Windfarm has forged another joint venture with Innovative Energy Company (IEC).

The companies will be partnering to install solar energy systems at Sangster International Airport in St. James.

In a notice to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, the companies shared that the contract with MBJ Airports Limited will see them carrying out the design, engineering and installation of roof-mounted and floating solar photovoltaic systems.

The contract sum is valued at US$7.78 million or about J$1.2 billion.

The system will have a six megawatt alternating current (6 MWac) capacity.

A battery energy storage system will also be installed.

This is at least the second joint venture between Wigton and Innovative Energy Company.

Last year, the companies partnered to carry out a similar project at the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries.

It was valued at US$7.32 million.

Innovative Energy Company is the same firm which last year acquired majority stake in listed company Ciboney.

Ciboney shareholders have approved the renaming of the company on the Jamaica Stock Exchange to Innovative Energy Group.
