Sharon Marley, one of the daughters of the late Reggae legend Bob Marley and a former member of the Ziggy Marley and the Melody Markers, appeared in the Family Court on Tuesday to answer charges of cruelty to a child.
The case involves a 6-year old boy who is a student at a learning centre which she operates on Lady Musgrave Road in St. Andrew.
Miss Marley appeared before the Family Court on Duke Street in Kingston close to 11 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Her case was mentioned and adjourned until on November 8.
The daughter of the late reggae icon was charged after she allegedly physically abused the boy.
Reports indicate that about two o'clock last Thursday afternoon, Miss Marley, confronted the six-year-old boy, whose mother is employed at the institution.
The child, who has special needs, was playing with a toy while awaiting his mother.
It is not clear what transpired; however, it is alleged that following a commotion, Miss Marley held onto the child and took him inside a room.
Minutes later the child was reportedly heard screaming, and when he emerged from the room, he was crying, and allegedly had bruises and other marks on his body.
The child who is said to be autistic, reportedly had bite marks on the shoulder and hand.
The child's mother subsequently filed a report with the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
Miss Marley went to the police on Friday afternoon and was later charged.
