141 Jamaicans receive national honours and awards

 
Some 141 Jamaicans were recognised on Monday for their contribution to national development. 
 
The list of honourees and awardees was announced in August. 
 
Among the awardees are Government Senator and JMMB Group CEO Keith Duncan, Government Minister Desmond McKenzie, and former Jamaica Stock Exchange Managing Director Dr. Marlene Street Forrest, who have all been conferred with the Order of Jamaica.
 
Radio Jamaica's Emily Shields, Dr. Orville Taylor, along with late retired Gleaner journalist Barbara Gayle were recognised for their contributions to nation-building.
 
Mrs. Shields, who is also an attorney-at-law, was honoured for her contribution to journalism and legal advocacy. With over two decades of service in media, she has informed and empowered Jamaicans through programmes such as Hotline on Radio Jamaica 94FM and Nationwide This Morning on Nationwide 90FM.
 
Dr. Taylor was recognised for his contribution to public service, advocacy in education and in labour relations specialisation. The educator, author and award-winning columnist is also a host on Radio Jamaica's Hotline and was a former senior industrial relations director in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
 
Ms. Gayle was honoured for her nearly five decades of trailblazing service to the field of journalism, and is credited with giving Jamaicans a deeper understand of legal proceedings through her court reporting.  
 
They were among 35 people who were conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander. 
 
Among other notable names were multiple Olympic medallist and 2011 World Champion Yohan Blake, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, National Epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster-Kerr, public health specialist Dr. Alverston Bailey, Wisynco Chairman William Mahfood, Managing Director of Trade Winds Citrus Peter McConnell, Director of Elections Glasspole Brown and Jamaican-American entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr. Trisha Bailey who were also awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander.
 
Techa Clarke-Griffiths, President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA), gospel artiste Kevin Downswell and former national footballer Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner were among those conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer.  
 
Thirteen-year-old Adrian Ellis received the Badge of Honour for Gallantry for his heroic action in saving the life of a fellow student who suffered a fall on April 30, 2025.
