2 dead in St. Elizabeth, suspected murder-suicide

Details are emerging about yesterday's suspected case of murder-suicide in St Elizabeth.

Dead are 30-year-old Nicola Harris, alias "Poochie", and her common-law-husband 45-year-old Vincent Baker.

It's believed that Mr. Baker stabbed and strangled Miss Harris to death and then poisoned himself.

Their five children, who are between ages 4 and 14, have been placed in the custody of  family members, and are to undergo counselling.

According to the police, Miss Harris and Mr. Baker had an abusive relationship, which caused her to leave the house several times, but eventually returning when they reconciled.

It was reported that she left last week after being attacked, but returned yesterday after Mr. Baker told her that he had some money for her.

When she failed to return to her relatives, they became suspicious and sent two of  the children to look for her.

The children found the bodies inside the couple's unfinished house.

Detectives removed a knife believed to be the murder weapon and a bottle suspected to contain a chemical from the house.

A senior investigator told RJR News the bottle will be sent to the forensic lab along with swabs taken from Mr. Baker's body.
