$250,000 reward offered for information on teen's murder in home invasion

Delano Seiveright, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew North Central

Crime Stop is offering a $250,000 cash reward for information leading to the capture of the suspects behind last week's murder of 18-year-old Jada Pollard during a pre-dawn break-in at her family's home in Smokey Vale, St. Andrew.

Jada was a sixth-form student at the Queen School.

Member of Parliament for St. Andrew North Central, Delano Seiveright, made the announcement Tuesday night during a meeting with the Smokey Vale Citizens Association and senior members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, led by head of the St. Andrew North Police Division Superintendent Randy Sweeney.

"Smokey Vale is one of the most peaceful hillside neighbourhoods above Kingston and this heinous act has left residents shaken up. We're moving quickly with the police on a number of initiatives. Among them of course is also enhanced security measures, cameras at entry and exit points in the community and improved street lighting and so on.

"We are asking and calling on the public to give information to the police. They can call a Crime Stop at 311. There's a reward being offered for details that can lead to an arrest, and we must deliver justice for Jada and safeguard the peace of that lovely community," said the MP.

According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred on September 15 around 1:40 a.m. when an intruder broke into the residence and began ransacking the premises.

The student, who was at home with relatives, reportedly exited her room and came face to face with the perpetrator who shot her in the head before fleeing the scene.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
