3 shot dead in Grants Pen

  Gunmen struck in separate incidents in the volatile community of Grants Pen in St. Andrew on Sunday leaving three people dead.

Noel Gibson of Brandon Hill, St. Andrew, a 40-year old loans officer employed to the Bank of Nova Scotia and Patrick McKenzie, 25 and Charmaine Thompson, 40 are the victims.

Mr. Gibson was visiting family and friends along Oddman Lane shortly after 12 o'clock, when he was attacked by gunmen and shot twice in the head.

He died on the spot.

While the cops were processing that scene, gunshots rang out along Grants Pen Road and Fagan Avenue.

On investigation, it was discovered that a group of persons were standing at a shop when two armed men opened fire on them.

Mr. McKenzie and Ms Thompson were shot.

Mr. McKenzie died on the spot, while Ms Thompson died while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Crime chief for the area, Deputy Superintendent Altemorth Campbell told RJR News that the Grants Pen area has become tense over the past three weeks following the release of several accused men on bail.

He believes these men are behind the upsurge in crime in the area.

Police following strong leads in family massacre

Meanwhile, the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT) is now following leads to the gunmen behind Saturday night's killing of a family in Hall's Delight in St. Andrew.

A 14-year old school girl was among the victims, while a 6-year old boy is hospitalised with gunshot wounds he sustained in the deadly attack.

Assistant Commissioner Les Green, MIT head is urging members of the community who have any information on the killings to come forward and assist the police in solving the case.

Brothers, Alty, 41, and Yucal Thompson, 31, Janet McGann, 36, otherwise called 'June' and 14-year old Simone Whyte and the 6-year old boy were at home around 11.30pm when a door to their house was kicked in and men armed with guns opened fire on them.

The Thompson brothers, Miss McGann and Simone four died on the spot.

The little boy was taken to hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.
