47 die in Dominican Republic after consuming alcoholic beverages with methanol

The consumption of alcoholic beverages containing methanol has caused 47 deaths in the Dominican Republic in recent days.
 
According to a preliminary report from the Ministry of Health, this represents 43% of the 109 people who have been intoxicated so far.
 
Affected patients showed symptoms such as weakness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and disorientation.
 
Methanol is used as a solvent for paints and other industrial purposes.
