6,828 cheques, valued at $608M disbursed so far under Rebuild Jamaica programme

 

The Ministry of Labour & Social Security is reporting that 82 per cent of householders confirmed to have had damage done to their house by Hurricane Beryl have received reconstruction cheques under the Rebuild Jamaica initiative.  

 

The authorities have disbursed 6,828 cheques, valued at $608 million to beneficiaries in all parishes as at October 15, with the highest delivery rate in Westmoreland at 94 per cent, followed by the parishes of St. Catherine and St James at 92 per cent each. 

 

The Ministry is delivering an additional 200 cheques, valued at a total $200 million, through the parish offices and tat community locations in several parishes, while simultaneously continuing the processes of verifying documentation and cheque preparation for other claimants. 

 

Preparations are also being made to begin disbursal of second-tranche payments by the end of October to householders whose houses were destroyed.

 

The Ministry says its team continues to carefully execute the Rebuild Jamaica programme as a national initiative with a deliberate effort to ensure fairness and transparency, and urges any affected persons who have not been contacted to reach out to its offices in the respective parishes for assistance.
