Adams applauds Golding Administration for State of Emergency

One of the fiercest critics of the Government's crime fighting measures has given the thumbs up to the administration for imposing the two month State of Emergency.

Retired Senior Superintendent of Police Reneto Adams says for far too long criminal elements have been allowed to turn communities into garrisons.

He says the recent approach to crush them is commendable.

“I want to commend the government, to commend the police force, to commend the army and everyone who was involved in the State of Emergency making sure that criminal garrisons were destroyed and decimated as I have seen it done. It is the first time in about 30 years that I have observed criminal elements on the retreat, on the run, hiding, begging,” Adams said.

No haven for criminals

The retired lawman says criminals are being harboured in various locations across the island.

He however warned that the security forces are coming to get them.

The former Superintendent says law abiding Jamaicans must also be commended for pressuring the Government and the authorities to take strong action against crime.

PNP chastised

In the meantime, the Opposition People's National Party came under fire from the former head of the disbanded Crime Management Unit for not supporting the extension of the State of Emergency.

Reneto Adams did not hide his disappointment with the way the Opposition treated the motion in Parliament for the extension.

“What have they done to contribute to the State of Emergency and their operations? A market yard situation, cursing each other, who was wrong, who was right and they have completely taken out the effectiveness and efficiency of the State of Emergency on police action, military action, trying to control the criminal elements,” he said.

He suggested that many persons are opposed to the passage of tougher laws and their effectiveness, as they are bent on protecting criminal elements.
