An ultimatum served on the Airports Authority of Jamaica
by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has expired.
Emergency and maintenance workers attached to the Airports Authority of Jamaica, (AAJ) on Monday threatened to walk off the job if the management failed to present a new wage offer.
The group which comprises fire personnel and members of the airport's emergency response team is represented by the TUC.
Deputy General Secretary of the TUC, Barrington Dawes, said wage negotiations have been going on for nearly one year with little progress.
He said workers have rejected previous offers presented by the AAJ and ultimatums issued against the company have not had much effect.
As a result, the workers are intent on taking stronger action to press home their demands.
If the strike materialises, landing at the airport could be jeopardised as essential ground crews will not be available.
