The Area 4 Police on Tuesday launched a series of operations targeting wanted fugitives and criminal gangs behind the violence in the Corporate Area.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, head of Area 4, says the police are concerned about the activities of the gangs, with some of them involved in firearms trafficking, murders, shootings, extortion and contract killings.

A major police/military operation was conducted in Tivoli Gardens on Tuesday morning as part of the anti-crime crackdown.

Kamau Dudney, 26, otherwise called 'Stama', of Dreketts Place, Tivoli Gardens, was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police.

Two illegal guns and several rounds of ammunition were seized in the operation.

"We believe that these firearms seized are part of the Tivoli Gardens Young Generation gang arsenal," said the Area 4 commander, who added that Mr. Dudney was believed to be a member of that gang.

ACP Phipps said the Police High Command is determined to dismantle criminal gangs in the Corporate Area and bring calm to volatile communities.

As such, he said the operational activities will continue across all divisions within Area 4.
