Former Tourism Minister and attorney-at-law Aloun Assamba began her duties as High Commissioner to London on Friday.
She told RJR’s London correspondent that there is a lot to be accomplished inclusive of dispelling some misunderstandings in the Diaspora community, surrounding the government’s intention of replacing the Queen as the Head of State.
In a message to the UK Diaspora community, the new High Commissioner said there is no issue with the Queen.
She said whenever the Queen comes to Jamaica after the change, she will be accorded the rights as a visiting head of state and head of the commonwealth.
Ms Assamba further added that when the change is effected the association with the queen will remain as Jamaica has no intention of moving away from the Commonwealth.
With numerous celebrations being planned in England for Jamaica’s 50th year of independence along with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the island's representation at the London Olympic games, Ms Assamba says a lot is to be accomplished in a short time.
She also told RJR News that she's looking forward to working with Jamaicans in England who are very passionate and are interested in the welfare and development of the country.
Aloun Assamba replaces Anthony Johnson following the recent change of administration.
