The police are probing what they believe is the death by drowning of a 58 year-old American tourist while he was snorkeling in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Saturday.
The deceased, a male, was reportedly from Port Charlotte, Florida. He was a guest at Sandals Ocho Rios.
The incident reportedly occurred about 10 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at hospital.
Sandals Resorts International, which did not name the guest, said it was "deeply saddened" by the tragedy and has expressed condolences to his family and friends.
The resort group said the guest experienced a medical emergency while participating in an outside snorkeling excursion.
It added that the guest was given immediate medical attention and swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.
The Tourism Liaison Office and the St Ann's Bay police are investigating.
