The agreement which the Ministry of Health signed with Andrews Memorial Hospital to accommodate non-COVID-19 patients from the Kingston Public Hospital remains intact despite the revelation that the privately run institution is not certified.

The revelation was made by Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton at a COVID-19 press conference on Monday.

While admitting that the issue of uncertified hospitals needs to be addressed to move into "a more tidy system" following a regulatory framework, Dr. Tufton said Andrews Memorial has an important role in the COVID-19 response so there is no need to yank the agreement.

On Monday, the Parliamentary Opposition questioned why the Ministry of Health failed to make checks to ascertain whether Andrews Memorial was certified to operate before the agreement was signed.
