Antigua and Barbuda to introduce new bills to address youth crime

Antigua and Barbuda is taking action to combat a recent surge in youth-related crime.

The government is seeking to introduce three pieces of legislation to tackle the issue, namely the Anti-Gang Bill, Child Justice (Amendment) Bill, and the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill.

These laws are set to be presented to Parliament next week.

The government says a key focus of the new legislation is the introduction of increased minimum sentences for certain offences.

The cabinet has agreed on a minimum five-year sentence for gun-related crimes, an increase from the current two-year minimum.
