28 apprentices were recently presented with their official certificates to indicate their completion of the Jamaica Racing Commission's (JRC) Jockey's School training programme for 2024.
35 apprentices actually began 6 months of training in 2024, but only 28 managed to get to the final stage of receiving their official certificates recently in the Trainers' Room at Caymanas Park.
The ceremony had been postponed from its original date due to the passage of Hurricane Melissa. The apprentices actually started riding competitively in December 2024.
Meanwhile, valedictorian Tyrese Anderson got the award for the best performing riding practical aspect of the programme.
Champion apprentice for 2025 Demar Williams, received the Chairman's Award for being the best performing apprentice to date.
Williams rode a total of 44 winners to finish 4th in last year's jockeys' championship. Tajay Suckoo copped two awards, having been voted the best performing student for race riding theory and also sharing the most disciplined award for the entire training programme with Richie Shakes. Shakes was also adjudged the most improved apprentice, while Garvin Harris was named most congenial.
