Jamaica
is among regional countries that will benefit from a special multi-million US
dollar assistance fund established by Venezuela.
It will be financed by the proceeds from the sale of oil.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the money will be used to help Jamaica and other countries to improve food security.
"That fund will be dedicated to assisting Petrocaribe countries in tackling the problem of food security ... working out the details as to how we can enable our farmers to produce more food given the crisis that we face," he said.
Mr. Golding said he expects that this will dominate discussions when Ministers of Agriculture from the region meet in Honduras on July 30th.
