JLP Leader, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness
Audrey Marks, Jamaica's former Ambassador to the United States, has been presented as the Jamaica Labour Party's prospective candidate to represent the constituency of Manchester North East.
Ambassador Marks was presented on Sunday night by Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness during a workers awards ceremony.
She will succeed longstanding Member of Parliament Audley Shaw as the JLP's standard bearer in the constituency.
Dr Holness said she will continue the work of Mr Shaw in Manchester North East, noting that she was not taking for granted that "this seat has been in the JLP column for a long time, and therefore I don't have to do any work, it will just automatically stay in the Jamaica Labour Party column."
Instead, she had already met with the party's workers in the constituency to hear their concerns, "and she has sought, as much as she can, to provide resources and to provide relief."
That, he asserted, was already a good example "of the type of representation that she will give."
Ambassador Marks was also recently appointed to the Senate.
Rowe switches to JLP
In related JLP news, Lawrence Rowe, the former People's National Party candidate for Kingston Central, has switched allegiance to the Jamaica Labour Party.
Mr Rowe appeared on stage on Sunday at the Jamaica Labour Party's Western Central workers meeting.
His shift to the JLP came months after he was ousted as PNP caretaker for Kingston Central in January and replaced by retired Senior Superintendent of Police, Steve McGregor.
