Relatives of shooting victims in Dry River, St. Elizabeth
By Kimone Witter
A 24-year-old woman and her seven-year-old niece are the latest victims of gun violence in St. Elizabeth.
The two were shot and wounded during an early morning home invasion in Dry River district.
They are in serious but stable condition in hospital.
It's reported that sometime after 1 o'clock, the four occupants of a house were awakened to smoke after their attackers set fire to the front doors.
Three armed men then entered the house and opened fire hitting one of three women and a child.
A cousin of the family says it is believed that the shooting is linked to an ongoing domestic abuse case and the mother of the seven-year-old appears to have been the target.
The family matriarch told Radio Jamaica News that she is trying to understand the reason behind the attack on her daughters and granddaughter.
"I don't know what kinda information dem get to come here. I do not know.... Di way mi shock, mi shock so til mi can't even bawl," the woman bemoaned.
The police have not established a motive for the shooting.
This is the second shooting in Maggotty since Saturday when a businessman was killed during a robbery at a wholesale.
