The National Insurance Scheme's Unemployment Fund in Barbados has been depleted, due to the high level of payouts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Jennifer Hunte, Acting Director of the National Insurance Department, says there is no need to panic as claims will still be processed.
She said the NIS has adequate reserves to cover claims.
Ms Hunte says the National Insurance Board agreed to utilise a significant portion of the portfolio of the National Insurance Fund to facilitate the uninterrupted payment of unemployment benefits.
