Dr. Carla Barnett
Belizean Dr. Carla Barnett has been elected the new CARICOM Secretary General.
Dr. Barnett was elected on Tuesday during the virtual 21st Special Meeting of CARICOM leaders.
She replaces Dominican-born diplomat, Irwin LaRocque, who has been in the post since August 2011.
Dr. Barnett was the first woman to have served as deputy secretary-general of CARICOM from 1997 to 2002.
