Beryllium confident millions stolen from armoured truck will be recovered

The management of Beryllium security company says it is confident that millions of dollars in cash that were stolen from one of its trucks on the weekend in St. Andrew will be recovered and those responsible apprehended.

Radio Jamaica News reported on Wednesday that the company had formally filed a report with the St. Andrew Central Police.

In a statement Thursday, Beryllium confirmed the theft of assets from one of its trucks on Saturday and said it had launched a comprehensive internal investigation.

The company said with the advanced investigative measures now in progress, it is expecting positive developments.

A 32-year-old driver of the security company has been listed as the prime suspect in the theft of more than $15 million.

The man reportedly removed a bag containing cash from the armoured truck while a Beryllium team was carrying out duties at MegaMart Superstore on Waterloo Road Saturday morning.

The suspect, who was left in the truck, was seen on CCTV footage exiting the compound with the bag.

He left his uniform and the firearm assigned to him.
