Face-to-face classes at Galina Primary and Infant School in St. Mary were suspended Tuesday morning after the body of a man was found in the auditorium.
He has been identified as 59-year-old Everton Meghoo.
It's reported that about 5:50 a.m., the school's watchman saw Mr. Meghoo in the auditorium, lying on a mattress, and attempted to wake him.
But the man was motionless and had what appeared to be blood above his right eye.
The police were alerted.
Principal Latoya Willis Miller said Mr. Meghoo was not employed to the school.
She said classes are expected to resume on Wednesday.
Speaking with Radio Jamaica News, Mr. Meghoo's brother Derrick said wounds on the body suggested that he was perhaps beaten to death.
"Dem a seh like him a bleed and him have some mark inna him back, suh it look like a somebody beat him or something like that – the police dem seh it, seh a beating him get – [because] heart attack can't mek you have cut and bleed," he reasoned.
The police are continuing their investigations and have appealed to anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Port Maria Police Station at 876-994-4222, the nearest police station, or call Crime Stop at 311.
