The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has expressed concern over the spate of bomb threats plaguing institutions since last week.

JCC President Phillip Ramson said the continued threats are taking a toll on productivity.

Mr. Ramson said with the Yuletide season fast approaching, many businesess could see loss of much needed revenue.

"With the Christmas time coming in, people are going to be working longer hours. They're going to be celebrating with their staff. They're going to be using the Christmas - for some businesses, the Christmas is a make or break for their whole year. So it is a very important period of time for business.

"For Jamaica, all of our remittances are certainly heightened at those times that people are spending more. And you don't want this level of uncertainty in the environment and in the community again. And one simple phone call and it closes up business for the day. And I think that part is concerning to us," he bemoaned.

The JCC president said the country's reputation is also being damaged by these incidents.

"We already are faced with criticism from the international market, whether it's the scamming or our murder rates or other aspects. And now when you add bomb threats, it has an effect on our reputation, which affects us with our trading partners and our overall ability to promote Jamaica as a destination to do business," he argued.

Mr. Ramson was speaking Wednesday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines.
