Buildings to be examined for asbestos

The Government  is in the process of closely examining other Government buildings to get a clearer picture of the extent of the Asbestos problem.
Earlier this week, TVJ reported that Firefighters at the Trench Town, Rollington Town and Port Royal Fire Stations were concerned for their health, because of the asbestos found at the station.

Since then they have been relocated, but other Government workers are concerned about the state of their buildings.

However, State Minister in Local Government Ministry Colin Fagan, says work has begun to alleviate the situation.

“The Ministry is in discussions, there is a team at NEPA that can deal with the removal of this material….  so we will be seeking to get a team that has the necessary training to deal with it”.

Meanwhile, Mr Fagan is pleading with the workers and members of the public to give the Government time to properly deal with the situation.

“These are things that we have been living with for a long time. It doesn’t mean that we should continue to do that, but give us good time to make the corrections, if  the request is made of the ministry and it is taking too long then that is another matter.  But to just wake up one morning and to start to move out everybody, I don’t know how we are going to manage something like that” said Mr Fagan.
