Cabinet has yielded to pressure from motorists with long accrued traffic tickets and will render all demerit points and tickets accrued up to February 1, 2018, null and void.
As such, these sanctions will not be transitioned to the New Road Traffic Act and its accompanying regulations.
Provided that the tickets accrued after February 1, 2018 are paid before February 1, 2023, demerit points arising from those tickets will also be expunged upon the implementation of the new law.
Cabinet has signed-off on the relief measure for all outstanding tickets to be cleared by January 31, next year.
The relief also comes ahead of implementation of the new Traffic Ticket Management System.
Having made these decisions, Cabinet is now seeking to assure the public that there will be expect greater efficiency and a fully digitized process with implementation of the Road Traffic Act, 2018 and new Traffic Ticket Management System.
