Administrators at the Care Bear Early Childhood Institute
are pleading for help to put a dent on a series of thefts at the facility.
Vice Principal Donna Smith told our news centre that the school, located at the corner of Nelson Road and Waltham Park Road in Whitfield Town is at the mercy of criminals.
The hoodlums this weekend broke in and stole a manhole cover from the school compound.
Mrs. Smith said the teachers are at their wits end, as various incidents have been reported to the police but the thefts continue.
"Persons have been jumping our building and removing articles. Some one removed a manhole cover we have children two years old to six years old and now we cannot allow them to go on the open field because the covers are being removed," said Mrs. Smith.
"We are asking the community to stop interfering with things for their own, it's their children. And if they keep on doing this soon we won't have a school left they will just come and kick the doors down," she said.
Mrs. Smith said the problem is community wide, as criminals also steal pots and other metal items from residents to supply the scrap metal trade or to make bullets.
Last week several hoses were stolen from the school compound and earlier this year criminals stole a lightening rod which was installed on one of the buildings.
