Jamaicans now have the option of obtaining CARICOM
passports.
Speaking on TVJ's Magazine Programme Smile Jamaica on Thursday morning, Chief Executive Officer of the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency Jennifer McDonald said the Agency started issuing CARICOM passports on January 2.
She said this was in keeping with the agency's commitment to CARICOM.
Miss McDonald noted that the passport holders will enjoy certain privileges as they travel across CARICOM countries.
"Because for CARICOM nationals we issue, once you are a CARICOM national we give you six months landing in Jamaica and all other CARICOM nationals. You can go to the Ministry of Labour to get your skills certificate [to work]," she said.
She said persons who now hold regular Jamaican passports can still use them as they remain valid until their expiration dates.
However persons who renew their expired passports will get CARICOM passports.
