Central Kingston fire leaves scores of residents homeless

A major fire on Fleet Street and Ladd Lane in downtown Kingston on Monday left more than 50 residents homeless.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that more than fifty residents in the two Central Kingston communities are now homeless after fire gutted their homes.
 
It's not clear how the fire started, but residents believe it began along Fleet Street and quickly spread to adjoining Ladd Lane.
 
Stewart Beckford, Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, speaking on  Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said the fire brigade was alerted to the blaze sometime before 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
 
Five units battled the blaze that affected the dwellings.
 
Residents said about twelve homes were gutted by the blaze 
 
Two of the victims said they lost everything, including school supplies for their children.
