Reports have surfaced in the United States that the Charlie Charlie Challenge game, which has been trending globally over the last few weeks, is a marketing ploy to promote an upcoming movie.
According to international media reports, the game is in fact a new teaser for Warner Bros' upcoming horror film, The Gallows, which is to be released next month.
The movie features a different version of the game with a much more upsetting outcome.
The “Charlie Charlie Challenge”, as it is being called, has come under scrutiny in Jamaica, with the Education Ministry banning it from being played in schools.
The reasons given were that it was becoming disruptive to schools, and may cause serious psychological effects.
