The police have confirmed that the video circulating on social media showing a little girl involved in a sex act, was recorded in Trinidad.

An investigation was launched by Jamaican police and the Office of  the Children's Advocate to determine the origin of the video.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Dahlia Garrick, acting head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit, said checks were made on Thursday with international counterparts.

"We have confirmed with our law enforcement partners in Trinidad that a formal report was made to the Trinidad police and that matter is now being investigated by them," she told RJR News.

The man seen in the video is reportedly on the run.

The police are again asking persons to desist from sharing the video as it is an offence which could result in them being prosecuted. The public is being urged to delete it if received.

Meanwhile, the grandmother of the girl who was seen in the video filed a report with the Trinidad police on Wednesday night.

According to the Trinidad Express newspaper, the six year old child was accompanied by her grandmother to a police station.

The woman told the police that she knew the suspect.

The police said neighbours beat the suspect and attempted to hand him over to officers, however he escaped.

The case has been referred to the Child Protection Unit.
