Convicted racketeer Christopher "Dudus" Coke was sentenced Friday morning in the Manhattan Federal Court in the United States.
The former Tivoli Gardens strongman was sent to prison for 23 years by Judge Robert P Patterson after pleading guilty in 2011 to racketeering and conspiracy to racketeering charges.
The sentencing came after four prior postponements.
The prosecution had asked the court to sentence Coke to the maximum 23 years in prison after alleging that he was guilty of
multiple murders and rapes.
They sought to substantiate those claims in a May 22 evidentiary hearing which came after three postponements of Coke's
sentencing.
In those hearings gripping testimonies were provided by witnesses who claimed they saw Coke committing brutal murders.
But Coke's lawyers said the defence had still failed to provide evidence of those crimes.
Coke's 23 year sentence came just over two years after he was extradited to the United States.
He had waived his rights to fight his extradition.
