CMOC claims lack of support from Government

Bishop Garth Minott

The Crime Monitoring Oversight Committee [CMOC] has complained that, despite the government's commitment to provide funding, no financial support has been forthcoming from the state, and this has been limiting its capacity to adequately function.

CMOC is an independent body which provides an overview of the efficacy and efficiency of the programmes agreed through the process of national consensus.

It also keeps the public engaged on the progress of reducing crime, violence and corruption in Jamaica.

The body, which has been in operation since 2020, brings together non-partisan stakeholders from the private sector, civil society, academia, and the political directorate.

A member of the committee, Bishop Garth Minott, told Radio Jamaica News that  the oversight body is strapped for cash.

Bishop Minott says a meeting is to be held next Monday with stakeholders to discuss achievements and some of the gaps that should be filled.
