Cocaine seized in joint Customs/Police operation

A joint operation involving Jamaica Customs personnel and the Jamaica Constabulary Force has resulted in the seizure of more than 30 million dollars worth of cocaine.

According to Jamaica Customs Department officials, 13 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 13 kilograms, with a street value of over $31.8M were seized.

The operation involved members of  the Contraband Enforcement Team and members of the Trans National Crime and Narcotics Division (TNCD) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The packages were hidden under containers found in a transhipment vessel from Guyana.

The vessel arrived at Kingston Wharves approximately six Wednesday  morning and was destined for the United States.    

Five persons have been held for questioning.

The packages have been handed over to the TNCD for further investigation as the vessel undergoes additional examination.
