A special committee has been established to safeguard the
archives at the defunct Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, (JBC).
The committee was set up following the reported theft of material from JBC's Radio Archives on South Odeon Avenue, in Kingston.
It was recently discovered that the music library, which was under the watch of the National Archives, was stripped of 80 per cent of its content.
Minister of Information, Olivia ‘Babsy' Grange said the committee has been mandated to examine the arrangements for the safekeeping of the archives.
It will also recommend the most effective and appropriate methods to prevent future exploitation.
The committee will be chaired by Television Jamaica, (TVJ), presenter Owen James.
The other members are former Police Commissioner, Colonel Trevor McMillan; broadcaster, Tony Patel; historian, Ken Jones; President of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians, Desmond Young and attorney-at-law, Lloyd Stanbury.
Also serving are television and radio Producer, Laurel Hepburn, as well as senior representatives of the Ministry of Information and the Attorney General's Department.
