A police officer escaped serious injury Friday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle in Port Maria, St. Mary.

It is reported that the officer fell asleep while driving after completing a double shift.

The driver of the vehicle the policeman crashed into told RJR News he stopped at an intersection to turn turn left when he saw the police car approaching from a distance. When the car got closer, it swerved and slammed into his vehicle.

"Me hear the man come out and say, 'A sleep me inna sleep enuh man' - that's all him say to me," said the driver.

Both men were treated and released from hospital.
