The Court of Appeal has thrown out an appeal brought by Dance Hall entertainer Movado in a relation to a conviction for assault. The Court on Friday ruled that the May 2012 conviction of David Brooks, which is Movado's given name, will stand as there was sufficient evidence to warrant his conviction.
The entertainer was charged with malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning actual bodily harm arising from a July 2011 incident in St. James. Following the trial, he was fined J$20,000 or six months for malicious destruction of property and J$80,000 or six months on the assault charge.
During a reported heated argument Mavado used his SUV to injure the complainant, after the entertainer refused to drive over a rough patch of road. The complainant's car was said to have broken down, thereby blocking a portion of the roadway.
