Opposition Spokesman on Education Damion Crawford

Opposition Spokesman on Education Damion Crawford is hopeful that the legal challenge that he has brought against the government on the constitutional right of children to an education will get off the ground in coming days.
This, after two false starts in the Constitutional Court in April and July due to attorneys for the government indicating that they were not ready to proceed.
Mr. Crawford told Radio Jamaica News that the matter is scheduled to be heard again next month.
"The judge [has] indicated her seriousness against this October deadline. And so we expect to hear from the government what their basis of challenge is and what their arguments against our recommendations are," he said.
In the claim, dated April 7, Mr. Crawford is seeking a declaration that the constitutional rights of Jamaican children to publicly funded tuition in public educational institutions at the pre-primary and primary levels have been breached.
