Westmoreland Central MP wants gov't, NWA to account for delayed road repairs

Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central, Dwayne Vaz, is calling for the Government and the National Works Agency to account for delays in road rehabilitation works following protests on Monday in Hertford over deteriorating road conditions.

 

Mr. Vaz says the Hertford to Williamsfield Road was scheduled to be addressed in June, but work has yet to begin.

 

He says the contractor assigned to six roads in the constituency has only started preparatory work on the Dunbars River to Torrington and the Savanna-la-Mar to Tollgate roads, with no substantial work completed to date.

 

"I've been lobbying for the repairs and the government has approved the patching programme and allocated funding. As I have said previously, I have done my part. We secured the government's approval for the road patching programme, and we had every expectation that necessary works would have been completed by now. Unfortunately, that has not happened," the MP lamented.

 

Taxi operators in Hertford protested on Monday and Tuesday, as their anger over deteriorating roads boiled over. 

 

As it relates to the protest in Shrewsbury, Mr. Vaz said he has engaged the Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar and other relevant officials to identify funding for the necessary road repairs.
