Months after the government opened the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project, Custos of St. Thomas Marcia Bennett is calling for immediate repairs to sections of the roadway.
Custos Bennett is urging Member of Parliament for St. Thomas Eastern Dr. Michelle Charles to inform Prime Minister Andrew Holness of the areas that are in need of repair.
"The Prime Minister has put his head on the block. All the funds are coming to St. Thomas. Dr. Charles can boast, James [Roberts] can boast, [but] there are other members of Parliament who are having severe hardship because they have no good roads," she complained.
The custos urged the government to direct China Habour Engineering Company (CHEC) to complete the repair work, noting that billions of taxpayers' funds have been paid so the newly built roadway must be restored.
She made the call Tuesday during the Independence Flag Raising Ceremony at the Paul Bogle Square in Morant Bay.
