Deficiencies cited in rehabilitation work at Glengoffe Police Station

 

There is an appeal for the Police High Command and representatives of the Ministry of National Security to conduct a site visit at Glengoffe Police Station in St. Catherine.

 

Roojae Kirlew, Councillor for the Mount Industry Division, and Howard Hunter, President of the Glengoffe Community Development Committee, have cited deficiencies in the renovation works at the station.

 

They say based on their assessment, most of the rehabilitation work is completed. But the project, which started in 2021, needs to be wrapped up.

 

Mr. Hunter is concerned that an official handover date has been announced, but renovation work has again been paused for the last two months. 

 

"Based on what they have done, they need to come back and repair some of what they did, ’cause right now there is a leaking roof, I see pipes around the back leaking. There are also security issues, the kitchen is incomplete and every time what you hear is that the station will be open Friday. Now, there are only three Friday’s left in the month, so we want to know which Friday will it be open or if they are taking this community for a ride," he complained. 

 

"One of the walls they put up around the back there, there are more bends in it than from here to Kingston and that’s a brand new wall," added Mr. Hunter. 

 

Councillor Kirlew also bemoaned the "bent" wall at the back of the station, adding that work done on the manhole covers at the property have not been "up to standard at all". 

 

But while he is not completely pleased with the work done, the councillor said he is satisfied that the government has attempted to fix the station, which he admitted is looking "way better".

 

Police officers have been operating from the Glengoffe and Above Rocks police stations while the rehabilitation takes place.
