Dennis Meadows quits as constituency caretaker

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will have to find a new caretaker for the constituency of North Trelawny.

This follows Sunday’s announcement by Dennis Meadows that he has resigned as the party's representative in the constituency.

Following his defeat to the PNP's Patrick Atkinson in the December 2011 General Elections, Mr. Meadows had signalled his intention not to contest the seat in future elections.

Speaking with RJR News, Mr. Meadows said despite his resignation from North Trelawny, he is not leaving representational politics.

“I still have a passion for service; still desire to represent Jamaica and the interest of Jamaica in the Lower House and therefore I await that time. My move will be informed by the party’s wishes, whatever they deem best for me.”

In the meantime, the JLP says in coming weeks it will begin the process of finding a new caretaker for the constituency.

Dr. Horace Chang, General Secretary, said several persons have expressed an interest in becoming the party's representative in the constituency.

"The party’s selection committee will have to interview them and then we see which of them the workers in the constituency will embrace. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at that to prevent any gaps. But the organization itself in the constituency will be maintained; we have a couple of Councillors and a pretty good organization in there. It will take a little time to ensure that right candidate is put in place.”
