INDECOM probing five fatal police shootings in St. Catherine North

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it has responded to and is probing the circumstances of the five police fatal shooting incidents recorded in St. Catherine North since Thursday.

The commission says it processed the scenes from Thursday's incidents in New Nursery and Dallas Lane, St. Catherine and recovered evidential material.

Additionally, the hands of the deceased men were swabbed for DNA testing and their bodies photographed and sealed, pending post mortem examinations.

On Friday, three men were also fatally shot during joint police-military operations in Ewarton and Linstead.

INDECOM says initial accounts of the incidents were provided by some of the concerned officers. It adds that no body-worn cameras were reported as being issued or worn during any of the incidents.

Some 176 people have been killed in confrontation with the security forces to date, with eight of them fatally shot this month.

INDECOM is reminding the public that where photos, videos, or information is available in incidents involving members of the security forces, it should be made available and shared with the commission. This information can be shared via INDECOM's WhatsApp number (876) 553-0000.
