ECJ awards contract to upgrade biometric voter registry

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) is seeking to upgrade the biometric system for the country's voter registry.

Israeli-based firm Pangea IT, which specialises in the digital transformation of government and business services, has been awarded a tender to carry out the project.

Director of Elections Glasspole Brown told Radio Jamaica News that the ECJ is in the process of analysing the contract for signing.

The deal includes building an advanced biometric system, training and maintenance services.

Under the contract, Pangea will provide an integrated, centralised biometric system and commission a multi-modal automated biometric identification system to verify voters with fingerprint and face biometrics.

The upgrade will ensure election security and eliminate the risk of voter fraud.
