Education Minister apologises to Green Pond High School

The Ministry of  Education has issued an apology to one of  the schools which received a failing grade following an assessment by the National Education Inspectorate on performance standards.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has publicly said sorry to the Green Pond High School in St. James about the handling of  the findings.

The school's board took issue when the institution received a less than satisfactory grade despite a draft report of  the assessment indicating otherwise.

The board of  Green Pond was also upset about the poor level of  communication from the Education Ministry as well as the absence of  the final report on the school's performance.

Mr. Thwaites has admitted that the Ministry erred and expressed regret at the incident

Green Pond was among 12 high schools deemed not performing up to par.

Some of  the other schools listed are Albert Town High, Clan Carthy High, Trench Town High, Vere Technical High, Ferncourt High, Godfrey Stewart High and Kingston High.

The Education Ministry has promised to take immediate steps to address weaknesses in schools said to be performing poorly.
